Cost of Care
Faith Regional Health Services is committed to providing our region with quality medical care and support. We’re here to help you understand our services, charges, and what to expect before, during, and after your hospital visit. Faith Regional encourages you to ask our staff questions at any time while under our care so we can help you.
Cost Estimates
At Faith Regional Health Services, like hospitals everywhere, we charge for each service provided, including tests, medication, time in surgery, each day spent in the hospital, etc. While charges are often similar for patients with the same condition, specific services needed and the associated charges, are likely to differ with each patient. Your total charges for your services while in our care may be higher or lower than an average patient based on factors like:
- The length of your hospital recovery
- The difficulty of the surgery or procedure
- The types of medication required
- Any complications that required additional treatment or care
- Other pre-existing conditions you have that may affect your treatment plan
Additional Things to Consider
While it is impossible to completely predict what the final charges for your care will be, the information provided below can help to give you an idea of how it all works.
Insurance Companies Healthcare Networks
It is important to know if Faith Regional and the physicians providing the services are part of your insurance company's healthcare network. If you seek care out of your network, you will likely be liable for a greater share of the cost of your care. We recommend you check with your health insurance plan to verify whether the providers involved in your care are in your network.
Insurance Plans Differ
The amount you pay for your service also will depend upon which, if any, insurance plan is covering your care and how your benefits are structured. Insurer contracts with Faith Regional determine what price will be paid for your care. Additionally, you may have a deductible that must be met before your insurance covers the cost of your care, and/or you may be liable for paying a flat dollar copayment or a percentage of the cost of any services provided (coinsurance).
Price is Only Part of the Equation
Price is only one factor to consider when choosing a facility from which to receive your healthcare services. Quality, the proximity of care, and provider qualifications are all important too. Learn more about Faith Regional Health Services' quality and satisfaction.
Resources Available
Consider other resources that may be available in making your healthcare decisions. Check with your employer and your health insurance plan to see if there are other tools that can help you estimate the amount you will pay for care given different provider choices. These tools often include current information on your financial obligations in terms of deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. Also, different states have public resources such as websites that offer price estimates or average prices for common tests or procedures.
Separate Billing of Services
It is important to understand that you may receive a bill from Faith Regional Health Services and separate bills from other providers or services involved in your care. Be sure to talk with your physician and any other providers who will be treating you about their charges. The following is a list of other providers who may bill you separately (this list is not all-inclusive).
- Your personal physician if he or she follows your care in the hospital
- The surgeon that performs your procedure
- The anesthesiologist that works with the surgeon
- The radiologist that reads your x-rays
- Other physician specialists that may be consulted by your physician during the course of your care
- Services performed at affiliate locations, such as Faith Regional Surgery Center
- If laboratory tests cannot be performed onsite at Faith Regional and need to be taken to a laboratory outside of our hospital, you will receive a separate bill from the outside laboratory
Services your Provider Orders
The services that you receive and are charged for will depend on what your medical provider orders. If you are admitted as an inpatient, you can expect to see charges of the following types (this list is not all-inclusive).
- Room and board - these charges will vary by the level of care you received. For example, charges will be different for a day in intensive care versus general medicine or surgical care, labor and delivery, etc.
- Operating room, recover room, and anesthesia if surgery was performed.
- Laboratory testing
- Radiology exams
- Medical supplies
- Medications
It is important to note that all medical services provided to you in the hospital must be ordered by your physician or provider and will be recorded in your medical record.
