Faith Regional Recognized for Clinical Excellence and Overall Patient Experience by Healthgrades

Faith Regional Health Services announced that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2014 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. Faith Regional was identified as providing outstanding performance in the delivery of positive experiences for patients during their hospital stay, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.  This is the second year in a row that Faith Regional earned this distinction.

To be eligible for the Healthgrades 2014 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, Healthgrades evaluated 3,582 hospitals that submitted patient surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from March 2012 – April 2013. Of these hospitals, 3,000 hospitals met additional clinical quality requirements to be considered for this Healthgrades distinction. The top 15 percent of this group or 447 hospitals achieved the award.   Faith Regional ranked in the top 15% in the nation.

Healthgrades evaluated Faith Regional’s performance as assessed by the hospital’s patients across 27 different questions that roll up to ten distinct measures. Ranging from cleanliness and noise levels in a patient room to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patient’s needs, the measures also include whether a patient would recommend this hospital to friends or family.

“As consumers are becoming more active participants in their healthcare, measured performance surrounding  the patient experience at a hospital is an increasingly important consideration for patients in choosing where to receive their care,” said Evan Marks, EVP Informatics and Strategy. “Consumers can rest assured that those hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades 2014 Patient Experience Award demonstrate a commitment to exceptional focus on the needs of the patient during their stay at the hospital.”

In addition, Healthgrades has recognized Faith Regional for clinical excellence in orthopedics, neurosciences, pulmonary and critical care based on data from 2010 - 2012. The recognitions received are:

Orthopedics

  • Five-Star Recipient for Total Knee Replacement for 3 Years in a Row (2012-2014)

Neurosciences

  • Recipient of the Healthgrades Stroke Care Excellence Award™ in 2014
  • Ranked Among the Top 10% in the Nation for Treatment of Stroke in 2014
  • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Stroke in 2014

Pulmonary

  • Recipient of the Healthgrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™ in 2014
  • Ranked Among the Top 5% in the Nation for Overall Pulmonary Services in 2014
  • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in 2014
  • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia in 2014

Critical Care

  • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism in 2014
  • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Respiratory Failure in 2014

These 5-star ratings indicate that Faith Regional’s clinical outcomes are better than expected when treating the condition or conducting the procedure being evaluated. From 2010-2012, if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to hospitals receiving 5-stars, on average 234,252 lives could potentially have been saved and 157,418 complications could potentially have been avoided.

In the areas of Stroke and Pulmonary Care, Faith Regional not only performed at a 5-star level, it outperformed other hospitals in the nation in treating these conditions.

“We are honored to receive these national ratings from Healthgrades that [are] solely based on clinical performance and [a] testament to Faith Regional’s continued commitment to providing high-level, quality care to the residents of northeast Nebraska,” said Tim Auwarter, interim president and CEO of Faith Regional. “It demonstrates the dedication by our medical staff, nurses and other healthcare professionals in providing excellent care to our patients.”

“Patients are being asked to assume more responsibility for their healthcare decisions – from selection of their health plan to the associated network of physicians and hospitals,” said Marks.  “Since all hospitals do not perform equally in all procedures, patients can have confidence that by selecting a physician associated with a hospital that has achieved recognition by Healthgrades, they can potentially improve outcomes and reduce costs.”
