What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is characterized by high levels of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It may be that your pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin - a hormone involved in turning your food into glucose, which your body uses for energy. Another possibility is that your body isn’t using insulin effectively.

The result is too much sugar in your blood which can harm your organs and lead to serious problems.

At Faith Regional, you’ll benefit from a team of specialists and medical services to help you get control and manage your diabetes. Your primary care provider will oversee your diabetes care but may refer you to a specialist if needed. You may be referred to a:

• Ophthalmologist (eye doctor)
• Podiatrist (foot doctor)

Wound Care for Diabetes

Every year, more than 1 million people with diabetes will develop foot ulcers. Our Advanced Wound Center helps treat chronic and non-healing wounds.

Diabetes Education

Confidently live with diabetes with the help of our certified diabetes educators. They offer both one-on-one and group education sessions to help you understand your diabetes and how to manage it. If your doctor refers you to a diabetes educator, you will receive a phone call to schedule an initial consultation.

The Diabetes Center is recognized by the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists for Quality Self-Management Education. This education meets the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management and Support.
