What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is characterized by high levels of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It may be that your pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin - a hormone involved in turning your food into glucose, which your body uses for energy. Another possibility is that your body isn’t using insulin effectively.
The result is too much sugar in your blood which can harm your organs and lead to serious problems.
Types of Diabetes
Prediabetes
Prediabetes occurs when your blood sugar level is higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes occurs when your pancreas doesn't make insulin at all or doesn't make enough insulin.
Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 Diabetes occurs when your body doesn't use insulin correctly.
Gestational Diabetes
Gestational Diabetes occurs when you have high blood sugar during pregnancy.

Diabetes Education
Confidently live with diabetes with the help of our certified diabetes educators. They offer both one-on-one and group education sessions to help you understand your diabetes and how to manage it. If your doctor refers you to a diabetes educator, you will receive a phone call to schedule an initial consultation.
The Diabetes Center is recognized by the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists for Quality Self-Management Education. This education meets the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management and Support.
