Inserting a pessary

How to place a pessary.

Pessaries come in different shapes and sizes. They may be made of rubber, plastic, or silicone-based material.

A pessary is placed in your vagina. Your pessary will be carefully fitted at your doctor's office. You may need to experiment with different kinds of pessaries to find one that holds your pelvic organs in position without causing discomfort.

Your doctor will teach you how to remove, clean, and reinsert the pessary on a regular schedule. The cleaning schedule depends on the type of pelvic organ prolapse and the brand of pessary.
