The obstetrics department provides labor
and delivery services, C-sections, a regular and Special
Care nursery, and postpartum care for families in a 70-80
mile radius of Norfolk. Nearly 1,000 babies are delivered
at Faith Regional each year.
Our mission is to provide a comfortable, supportive Christian environment during labor and delivery, in the nursery and with postpartum care. This is accomplished through listening, educating and providing the highest quality care to our mothers, infants and families.

Special Care Nursery
Faith Regional Health Services is the only hospital in Northeast Nebraska that can offer you and your family the security of an experienced Special Care Nursery. In the event that your newborn requires specialized care, as in the case of a premature birth or other problems, be assured that our Special Care Nursery can provide critically ill newborns with expert medical care including IV therapy, oxygen therapy, tubal feedings, assisted breathing through the use of ventilators, and cardiac and respiratory monitoring.
All newborns in the Special Care Nursery receive one-to-one care day and night. Special monitoring equipment is located at the nurses station for continual observation. It is comforting to know that in the event your newborn requires some or all of these specialized services, you will be able to remain close to your baby.

After Delivery
Immediately after delivery,
your baby stays with you for quiet, unhurried time together.
It's an opportunity for you to get to know the new life
you've created. This is also the time to initiate bonding
to respond to the loving attachment already forming between
you and your infant. Your baby will need to go to the
nursery for admitting. This allows new mothers some time
to eat, shower and rest while dad goes with baby to observe
nurses while they take the necessary measurements. For
the remainder of your stay, you will be in one of the
postpartum rooms.
There are 8 semiprivate and 5 private
rooms. Here, the goal is relaxation, convenience and education
on caring for yourself and your newborn. Your baby stays
in your room as much of the time as you like. This rooming
policy allows you to return baby to the nursery
when you desire. Nap Time is observed daily from 1 p.m.
to 4 p.m. to allow for sufficient rest time for moms and
babies.
We understand the importance of a safe and secure environment for your new baby, that is why Faith Regional offers the "HUGS and KISSES" system.
After your baby is born, our OB staff places a “HUGS” tag on your baby’s leg and a “KISSES” tag on your wrist. Thereafter, each time your baby is brought to you, your baby’s numbered ID band will be checked against your ID band.
The “HUGS” tag protects the baby from infant abduction and is an additional check to ensure the correct baby is brought to the correct mother. If your baby gets too close to any of our department exits, an alarm will sound alerting staff, the security doors will shut and lock automatically.
Our Obstetric Unit security doors lock at 9:00 p.m. Visitors will be closely monitored after this time. Doors reopen at 5:00 a.m.
