The saying goes “There’s nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer.” That statement consistently rings true at Faith Regional Health Services. Recently, members of Faith Regional Foundation were honored to be presented with a check in the amount of $75,000 from Faith Regional Volunteer Services. The money was raised over the course of 2015 through various Volunteer Services’ sponsored programs and activities and included proceeds from the hospital’s gift shop, vending machines and numerous fundraises.
“We are extremely proud of the efforts of our volunteers,” said Suzann Bugenhagen, Director of Volunteer Services. “Without their time and dedication to the hospital and those we serve, we could not have accomplished this. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”
In 2015, the 227 volunteers at Faith Regional logged over 13,200 hours which is equivalent to 6 full-time employees. Volunteers contribute to the hospital in various ways, including being stationed at locations throughout Faith Regional’s campuses to assist patients and their family members or work fundraising events throughout the year, like the bi-annual book fairs, jewelry sales and bake sales. Volunteers range in ages from 14 to over 90 years old. In 2015, there were 31 individuals who have volunteered at the hospital for 10 or more years.
This year’s donation is earmarked to purchase an additional ventilator for the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit and an AngioJet™ Ultra Peripheral Thrombectomy System to assist in the removal of blood clots. The donation amount matches what Volunteer Services donated in 2014.
“It is at times like this that makes all our efforts worthwhile, knowing we’ve been a part of making others’ lives better,” said Dixie Lederer, Faith Regional Volunteer Executive Committee President.
