Registration Open for 2015 Laugh-and-a-Half-Marathon

Race registration is now open for the 2015 Laugh-and-a-half-marathon to be held on Saturday, June 13 in Norfolk, Nebraska. The event features several races including a half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and a kid’s fun run. Runners, joggers and walkers are all encouraged to participate.

Named a "Top Race Worth Traveling For" in the state of Nebraska by FlipKey by Tripadvisor as well as included in the book, “The Runner’s Bucket List: 200 Races to Run Before You Die” by Denise Malan, the event is celebrating its 5th anniversary and will be held at a brand new location in Norfolk. The start and finish will be located at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park with new half-marathon, 10K and 5K routes that follow the beautiful and scenic Cowboy Trail. The kids fun run will be held within the park.

$200 in prize money and a winner's trophy is awarded to the overall male and female half-marathon race winners with all half-marathon finishers receiving a special finisher medal. A variety of pre- and post-race activities are held including a pre-race pasta party.

The inspiration for the event is due in part to former Norfolk native the late Johnny Carson, however, event sponsors, Faith Regional Health Services and 94 Rock, have partnered to help the event promote wellness and ensure funds raised through the event will support pediatric needs in northeast Nebraska, especially in the area of healthcare.

Over $40,000 in funds have been raised over the last four years helping fund projects including Norfolk’s Pedal Park, a kid’s bicycle safety course in Norfolk and TheraPlay, a specialized outpatient pediatric therapy area at Faith Regional Rehabilitation Therapies.

In addition to runners, the event’s race organizers are scouring the local community looking for fun entertainers to showcase at the event. Entertainment acts are placed along the routes to provide entertainment for both runners and spectators.

Whether it is providing music, handing out water and treats or just cheering and helping direct runners along the course, a variety of volunteer opportunities are available. To sign up to volunteer or provide entertainment, call 94 Rock at (402) 371-0100.
