Nucor Donates $108,500 to Hope Fund

On September 18, a team from Nucor joined representatives from Faith Regional Health Services at the hospital’s Carson Cancer Center to present a check in the amount of $108,500 to benefit the Hope Fund. The money was raised at Nucor’s annual golf tournament in August.

“Part of Nucor’s mission statement is to be cultural and environmental stewards in our communities where we live and work,” said Dirk Petersen, General Manager of Nucor Steel. “We take this statement very seriously. We set a goal to raise $100,000 and were able to exceed our goal thanks to all of the support we received from our suppliers, teammates, and local community. Nucor is honored to support charities like the Hope Fund who help those in our northeast Nebraska community.”

“We are honored to have this partnership with Nucor and to have such community support for the Hope Fund which benefits so many residents of Northeast Nebraska,” said Mark Klosterman, President and CEO of Faith Regional Health Services.

The Hope Fund, established by local cancer survivor Nita Totten, provides on-going funding for items and services that support cancer recovery and survivorship. All of the donations to the Hope Fund directly benefit patients with cancer. Through the Hope Fund, Faith Regional is able to offer bras, prostheses and equalizers for breast cancer survivors; gas cards for cancer patients that travel 50 miles or more to receive treatment; nutritional supplements for cancer patients with dietary needs; cancer-related lymphedema sleeves that are not covered by insurance; and other cancer-related emergency needs on a case-by-case basis. All of these items are available to cancer patients and survivors free of charge.

“This contribution goes beyond the money; it speaks to the character of the company and the people who put this event together and made this donation possible,” said Totten, who serves as Administrator of the Hope Fund. “It also shows how the hospital and the community can come together and take care of each other. This really gets down to the spirit of what the Hope Fund is.”
