Joseph David, Jr., MD, was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 Faith Regional Medical Staff Awards banquet held on February 2, 2017.
Dr. David was born in Rushville, NE in 1920 and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He served in the Medical Corps of the United States Army in the Malaria Control Division during WWII. After service, he entered the University of Nebraska Medical Center and graduated in 1948. He then completed an internship at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Dr. David began his practice in Lynch, NE in 1949 with Dr. Rudy Kriz. He continued until June 1963 when he received a fellowship in Psychiatry in Omaha. Dr. David and his wife Helen (Sutherland), an instructor at the College of Nursing at the Medical Center, moved their family to Norfolk in 1964 where he entered into medical practice with Dr. John Pollack and Dr. George Surber at the Campbell Clinic. He was later joined in practice by Dr. G. Tom Surber, Dr. Jeff David and Dr. Mike Murphy and continued his medical practice until he retired in 1988.
Dr. David was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and a fifty year member of the Nebraska Medical Association.
He enjoyed cooking, gardening and entertaining his family and friends. Dr. David was especially delighted in delivering babies and caring for the multiple generations of his patients. Dr. David passed away in 2006.
