2017 Laugh-and-a-Half Marathon Race Registration Open

Race registration is open to runners, joggers and walkers of all ages for the 2017 Laugh-and-a-half-marathon on Saturday, June 17 in Norfolk, Nebraska. The event includes a half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and a kid’s fun run race.

Named a "Top Race Worth Traveling For" in the state of Nebraska by FlipKey by Tripadvisor as well as included in the book, “The Runner’s Bucket List: 200 Races to Run Before You Die” by Denise Malan, the routes follow alongside the Elkhorn River on the beautiful and scenic Cowboy Trail with a start and finish at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park. The kid’s fun run is held within the park.

$200 in prize money and a winner's trophy is awarded to the overall male and female half-marathon race winners with all half-marathon finishers receiving a special finisher medal. All participants receive a t-shirt and free access to the pre-race pasta party and post-race pancake feed.

The inspiration for the event is due in part to former Norfolk native the late Johnny Carson, however, event sponsors, Faith Regional Health Services and News Channel Nebraska 94.7, have partnered to promote wellness and ensure funds raised through the event support pediatric needs in northeast Nebraska, especially in the area of healthcare.

Over $60,000 in funds have been raised over the last six years helping fund projects including Norfolk’s Pedal Park, a kid’s bicycle safety course in Norfolk, and TheraPlay, a specialized outpatient pediatric therapy area at Faith Regional Rehabilitation Therapies. This year race funds will support the purchase of a state-of-the-art incubator and additional equipment in the pediatrics unit at Faith Regional Health Services.

In addition to registered runners, the event’s organizers are looking for fun entertainers to showcase at the event. Entertainment acts are placed along the routes to provide entertainment for both runners and spectators.

Whether it is providing music, handing out water and treats or just cheering and helping direct runners along the course, a variety of volunteer opportunities are available. To sign up to volunteer or provide entertainment, call News Channel Nebraska 94.7 at (402) 371-0100.
